Go with the blow

Calling all players of wind instruments or people returning or switching to brass instruments!

Spennymoor Town Band are described by Durham County Council as “One of the most adventurous bands in the county”. That could be because we played in Bishop Auckland Castle in costume in the musical drama The Painter and the Patriarch, or because we jumped and leaped as a continental street band with German group Beat n’ Blow in Durham Streets of Brass, or supported the Spanish Street Theatre XarXa through Spennymoor after dark performing the fierce story Les Rates Mortes (the dead rats), or even because we were the first ever brass band to perform with Belly Dancers at Durham Miners Gala.

Whichever it is, we believe it is because we have a wide open mind and welcome anything that entertains. Last year one of our members also played the Northumbrian Pipes with the band.

Open to all

To advance this approach, we are throwing our doors open on the First Sunday of every month to anyone who wants a blow. If you play a wind instrument - bring it along. If you used to play woodwind but fancy brass - come and try. If you used to play brass and want to try one more time - we’ve got an instrument for you. We also have a fantastic range of percussion for existing players or someone who wants to try their hand on the kit - tom toms, timpanis, tubular bells, glockenspiel, vibraphone and many more.

Join us! It’s all for fun and enjoyment, and the next event is on Sunday 4th December from 10.30am in the band room in Spennymoor Town Hall. Let’s see where it takes us.
